The SafeJournalists network warns of violence against journalists in Albania and calls for an urgent response from the authorities

The SafeJournalists network has expressed concern over the escalation of violence and obstruction of the work of media professionals reporting on student protests in Albania. According to data from this organization, during the first five days of protest gatherings, starting from October 13, 2026, at least 17 incidents involving police officers and demonstrators were recorded.
The statement notes that cases of physical assault, shoving, prevention of filming, and threats of detention have been recorded. Among the individual incidents, the case in which police officers beat a journalist while he was filming the use of force stands out, as well as the event on October 17, when masked individuals physically obstructed journalists as they attempted to question the general director of the state police.
