Kosovo parliament starts process to form army

The Kosovo parliament on Friday adopted three new laws which will mark the start of the formation of a fully-fledged military - the Law on the Kosovo Security Forces (KSF), Law on the Defence Ministry and Law on Service in the KSF – at the start of a process which is expected to take up to 10 years.
The announced move has drawn criticism and condemnation. NATO officials and member states feel that the timing is not right and that the whole thing had to have been done by amending the constitution of Kosovo while Serbian officials claim that an army under Pristina’s control will endanger the Kosovo Serbs.
