US and NATO welcome court verdict for attempted terrorism in Montenegro

Washington and NATO welcomed on Friday the jail sentences Podgorica court passed on two Russians said to be officers of military intelligence GRU service, charged with a terrorist attempt in 2016, on the general election day in Montenegro, the US State Department said on Friday, the Beta news agency reported.
Morgan Ortagus, a State Department spokesperson, said in a statement that the US was proud to have Montenegro as its ally. “Since the attempted coup, supported by Russia, was prevented, Montenegro took important steps toward the Euro-Atlantic integrations, especially with joining NATO in July 2017,” Podgorica media quoted Ortagus as saying.
