Spain Records Over 1,000 Heat-Related Deaths in Second Hottest June

Spain recorded 1,029 deaths attributed to heat last month, according to official data released today.

These are deaths believed not to have occurred without the extreme temperatures. Data from the Ministry of Health’s daily mortality monitoring system (MoMo) show that this June saw the highest number of heat-related deaths since the same month in 2015. Average temperatures last month were 3.2 degrees higher than usual, the meteorological agency AEMET reported, making June the second hottest ever, just behind June 2025.
