Russians to Open Furniture Factory in Vranje
The Russian Mnogo Mebeli furniture producer, which does business in Serbia under the name of Nefa Group, will open a facility in Vranje most likely by the end of May, while 350 workers will initially be employed, Vranje Assistant Mayor Aleksandar Stojkovic said on March 23.
Stojkovic told BETA that the Russian company’s facility for producing furniture would take up 10,000 square meters of rented office space belonging to the Vranje Yumco cotton complex.
"The Russian company was interested in opening a factory in Serbia and yesterday, after more than a month since our connection was established, they informed us that they wanted to open a factory in Vranje. The city will help them in all areas that apply to local self-government. What will ensue is the signing of a contract with Yumco on renting the space," Stojkovic said.
According to him, the Russian Nefa Group has already called a competition for choosing the management of the new factory while it expects to call a contest for hiring workers on April 1.
"Yumco will rent its halls that are not being used any more, which will require certain changes for launching the production of furniture, but these are not huge changes and production could begin in about a month," Stojkovic said.
Stojkovic also said that the Russian company is interested in starting its own 30,000 square-meter factory in the Vranje industrial zone next year and that 1,000 people would be employed.
"This will be a factory for upholstery, while the really important thing for us is that the Russians have their own sale venues and will not compete with domestic firms, given that there is a large number of companies that produce furniture in Vranje," Stojkovic said.
