REMEMBRANCES: On this day in 1944 the Allies bombed Leskovac, 2 thousand people were killed

On this day at 12:18pm in 1944, Leskovac was razed to the ground and about two thousand people were killed.

The city was bombed by the Allied Alliance in coordination with the National Liberation Movement. The chroniclers of the tragedy estimate that about two thousand people were killed, but a list of 819 dead has been confirmed so far. 84 most beautiful and largest buildings were destroyed and the architectural appearance of Leskovac as the craft and industrial city disappeared forever. On 6 September 1944, 24 U.S. „libertas“ bombers accompanied by 28 „hunters.“
