Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili on Tuesday conceded defeat after parliamentary elections, marking the first democratic transfer of power in the country's post-Soviet history. The opposition Georgian Dream, led by billionaire businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili, received 53 per cent of votes after a quarter had been counted, while Saakashvili's party obtained 41 per cent, the Central Election Commission (CEC) said.
